ECNC
What is ECNC?
ECNC, the European Expert Institute on biodiversity and sustainability, actively promotes the protection and sustainable use of nature, especially biodiversity in Europe, because of its intrinsic value and its relevance to European culture and economy. Thereby, ECNC seeks the integration of nature conservation considerations in other policies.
ECNC is an independent foundation, which was established in 1993. Together with her 53 network partners in 27 countries, ECNC works for a Beautiful Europe.
What does ECNC do?
ECNC's work is clustered into six Core Areas, addressing specific themes.
1. Biodiversity and Society
2. Interaction between Business and Biodiversity
3. Realisation of Green Infrastructure
4. State of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
5. Ecosystem and Species Management
6. Support for Policy Processes
Since 2009, ECNC together with some organisations forms the ‘ECNC’ group. Goal is to strengthen and broaden the economic activities of its members, by bundling means, experience and knowledge. Members of the ECNC group are: ECNC, Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC), and Centro Mediterráneo EUCC which form two units: 'Biodiversity and Nature' (ECNC) and 'Coastal and Marine' (EUCC).
In July 2010 the Large Herbivore Network (LHNet) has become part of the Biodiversity and Nature unit of the ECNC Group. This network brings together knowledge and expertise on the large herbivores in Eurasia and their relation to specific ecosystems.
